Stand D65 – EMEX, ExCel, London, 19 November 2014 – Reactive Technologies is demonstrating an ultra-responsive smarter demand-side management (DSM) service called Tradenergy® during this year’s Energy Management Exhibition (EMEX) at ExCel London, from 19-20th November.
Described by Reactive Technologies as ‘one of the most significant innovations to the energy market in decades’, the new service changes the traditional approach taken by the UK’s existing demand-side management (DSM) aggregators, by avoiding long-term, locked-in contracts and high CAPEX investment in new hardware.
Thousands of businesses, including supermarkets, office buildings, hotels and campuses, are set to save significant sums of money on their energy bills simply by allowing Reactive Technologies to remotely optimise how and when individual electrical assets, such as lighting, air conditioning and refrigeration, consume power.

Smarter DSM technology
The traditional approach to demand-side response (DSR) in the UK is to wait for a request from the grid operator to turn down or turn off non-essential equipment during times of grid stress or peak demand. These ‘events’ happen sporadically and the revenue earned from DSR programs such as Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR) can be unpredictable.
A secure, cloud-based software platform allows Reactive Technologies to control and shift their customers’ energy demands while maintaining normal operations. This allows businesses to minimise their spend on electricity and benefit from a wider choice of revenue streams.
In order to provide flexibility, control and optimisation of unlimited numbers of existing energy consuming devices, Reactive Technologies partners with third-party energy consultants and controls manufacturers.
Reactive Technologies and Danfoss, a world leader in refrigeration controls, recently announced a partnership that enables energy demand shifting in large-scale supermarket refrigeration systems. Following extensive trials, the service has been proven to be able to deliver material cost savings and additional revenue streams for large supermarket operators, without any disruption to daily business operations.
